How to Install Indian Chieftain Inner Fairing Speaker Grills (2019–2025)

Upgrading the inner fairing speaker grills on your Indian Chieftain, Chieftain Classic, or Roadmaster is a straightforward job you can knock out in your garage with basic tools. This guide covers the complete removal and reinstallation process so your new Brock Black Designs custom grills go on right the first time.

Before You Begin

Inspect the kit and all components to confirm everything is present and undamaged before starting. If anything is missing or damaged:

  • Purchased from a dealer: Contact your Selling Dealer for assistance.
  • Purchased online: Contact Brock Black Designs customer service at 208-705-0028 (US & Canada only).

Verify fitment for your specific model at brockblackdesigns.com.

Fitment / Compatibility

  • Kit P/N 2883927 — Fits 2019 and later Chieftain, Chieftain Classic, and Roadmaster
  • Kit P/N 2889057 — Fits all 2019 and later models

Tools Required

  • Safety glasses
  • Socket set with metric hex bit
  • Metric socket set
  • Torx® bit socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Non-marring pry tool

Step-by-Step Installation

Step 1 – Power Down the Motorcycle

Turn the key or ignition switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If your bike is equipped with a keyless fob, move the fob away from the vehicle before starting work.

Step 2 – Secure the Bike

Park on a flat, stable surface and fully extend the kickstand. Confirm the motorcycle is stable before proceeding. Put on your safety glasses.

Step 3 – Remove the Speaker Grille Cover

Remove and keep the two screws (A) securing the grille cover (B) to the fairing. Carefully pull the grille cover free and set it aside — you'll be replacing it with your new Brock Black Designs grill.

Step 4 – Remove the Fairing Speaker

Remove and keep the four screws (C) securing the fairing speaker (D). Lift the speaker out of the fairing and disconnect the electrical connector (E). Set the kept screws aside — you'll reuse them. Discard the old speaker if you are replacing it.

Step 5 – Connect and Install the New Speaker

Connect electrical connector (E) to the new speaker (1). Seat the new speaker into the fairing opening and secure it with the four kept screws (C). Torque screws to specification.

Step 6 – Reinstall the Grille Cover

Position your new Brock Black Designs custom grille cover (B) over the speaker opening and secure it with the two kept screws (A).

Torque screws (A) to: 5 in-lbs

Do not overtighten — 5 in-lbs is a light snug. Overtightening can crack the grill or strip the fairing threads.

Step 7 – Repeat on the Opposite Side

Follow the same process for the second speaker and grill cover. Step back and confirm both grills are flush, secure, and the designs are oriented consistently.

Tips for a Clean Install

  • Use a magnetic parts tray to keep screws organized — there are two different sets (A and C) and you don't want to mix them up.
  • A torque wrench is important here: the grille cover screws are only 5 in-lbs, which is very light. Hand-tight plus a small snug is about right.
  • Work in good lighting so you can clearly see the connector orientation before plugging in the new speaker.
  • If the grille cover feels stiff to seat, a non-marring pry tool helps press the edges flush without scratching the fairing.
