How to Install 5x7 Corner Bag Lid Speaker Grills on 2014–2023 Harley-Davidson Saddlebags

Brock Black Designs 5x7 corner bag lid speaker grills are a direct-fit upgrade for 2014–2023 Harley-Davidson saddlebag lids — available for both stock OEM lids and Rockford Fosgate bag lids. The install is straightforward with basic hand tools. Do not use power tools — they can overtighten and crack the grill housing. Watch the video above, then follow the steps below.

These 5x7 corner bag grills fit 2014–2023 Harley-Davidson touring models with saddlebag lid speakers. Two versions are available — make sure you order the correct one for your setup:

What's Included

  • 5x7 Corner Bag Grills — 2 pieces (left and right)
  • Screws — factory length is 0.55 inches. Screws are supplied with your kit. Do not substitute aftermarket or non-factory length screws — incorrect length screws can damage the grill housing.

Tools Required

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Microfiber cloth (optional, for cleaning)

Do not use power tools. Hand tools only — overtightening will crack the grill housing.

Step-by-Step Installation

Step 1 – Prepare the Bike

Park on a flat, level surface. Turn the ignition OFF and allow the engine to cool. Open the saddlebag lids fully for best access to the grill area. Optionally, wipe down the bag lid grill area with a microfiber cloth to remove any dirt or debris before starting.

Step 2 – Remove the Existing Grills

Using your screwdriver, remove the screws securing the factory or existing grill pieces. Keep the screws — you may reference them for sizing, though your Brock Black Designs kit includes the correct replacement screws.

Step 3 – Dry Fit the New Grills

Before installing with screws, place each new 5x7 corner grill into position on the bag lid:

  • Confirm the grill sits flush and aligns properly with the contour of the bag lid.
  • Check that the mounting pegs or tabs line up with the mounting holes.
  • If any adjustment is needed (e.g., minor trimming of pegs), do it now before committing to installation.
  • Confirm left vs. right orientation — the grills are side-specific.

Step 4 – Install the Grills

Position the grill back into place and begin threading the included screws by hand:

  • Use only the supplied screws (0.55" length). Aftermarket or longer screws can damage the housing.
  • Thread all screws in by hand first before tightening any of them.
  • Tighten with your screwdriver — firm but not forced. Stop as soon as the grill is snug and flush.
  • Do not use a power drill or impact driver.

Step 5 – Final Check

Once both grills are installed:

  • Confirm all screws are tightened and the grills sit flush with no gaps or lifted edges.
  • Gently shake each grill to confirm there's no movement or rattle.
  • Close and open the saddlebag lids to confirm the grills don't interfere with lid operation.
  • Wipe down the grills and surrounding area with a clean microfiber cloth for a polished finish.

Troubleshooting

  • Grill doesn't align: Remove and reposition. Check that you have the correct side (left vs. right) and that the mounting pegs are fully seated before tightening.
  • Grill feels loose after install: Check that all screws are fully tightened. Confirm you're using the correct 0.55" screws — screws that are too short won't grip properly.
  • Screw won't thread in: Do not force it. Back out and re-align — cross-threading will strip the housing.

Care & Maintenance

  • Clean with a soft, damp microfiber cloth.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners that can damage the finish.
  • Periodically check screws for tightness after long rides or rough roads.
  • Apply a UV protectant spray to keep colors vivid through the riding season.
