How to Install Indian Motorcycle Bag Lid Grills (2019–2025+)
Custom bag lid grills from Brock Black Designs are a direct replacement for the factory saddlebag lid grills on 2019–2025+ Indian Motorcycle models. The install uses a clip-and-tab system — no drilling, no permanent modifications — and takes just a few minutes per side. Here's how to do it right.
Before You Begin
Inspect the kit and all components to confirm everything is present and undamaged. If anything is missing or damaged:
- Purchased from a dealer: Contact your Selling Dealer for assistance.
- Purchased online: Contact Brock Black Designs at 208-705-0028 (US & Canada only) or visit brockblackdesigns.com.

Tools Required
- Non-marring pry tool (plastic trim removal tool)
- Clean microfiber cloth
Important Notes Before You Start
- Do not pry against painted surfaces — always pry against the structural frame of the grill or bag lid, not the painted bag body.
- The grills are side-specific — left and right are not interchangeable. Confirm orientation before installing.
- Reuse the gaskets and clips from your factory grills — do not discard them.
Step-by-Step Installation
Step 1 – Power Down and Secure the Bike
Turn the ignition to OFF and remove the key. If equipped with a keyless fob, move it away from the vehicle. Park on a flat, stable surface with the kickstand fully extended.
Step 2 – Open the Saddlebag Lid
Open the saddlebag lid fully to give yourself clear access to the grill from both sides. This makes it much easier to work the pry tool around the clips without straining.
Step 3 – Remove the Factory Bag Lid Grill
Insert your non-marring pry tool between the grill and the bag lid frame — not between the grill and the painted bag body. Work around the perimeter, releasing each retaining clip one at a time:
- Pry gently against the bag lid frame to release the first clip.
- Work around to each remaining clip and repeat.
- Once all clips are free, remove the factory grill.
Tip: Work slowly — rushing can snap a clip or scratch the bag lid paint.
Step 4 – Save the Gasket and Clips
Remove the rubber gasket and retaining clips from the factory grill. These are reused with your new Brock Black Designs grill — set them aside carefully.
Step 5 – Pre-Fit the New Grill (Dry Run)
Hold the new grill up to the bag lid opening without the gasket to confirm fitment and verify it is the correct side (left vs. right). It will feel slightly loose without the gasket — that's normal. Remove and set aside once confirmed.
Step 6 – Transfer Gasket and Clips to the New Grill
Fit the rubber gasket around the full perimeter of the new grill. Make sure it sits flush and is not twisted or bunched anywhere — a poorly seated gasket will cause the grill to sit proud of the bag lid surface. Attach the retaining clips in their original positions.
Step 7 – Install the New Grill
- Engage any locating tabs into the bag lid opening first to anchor the grill.
- Align the retaining clips with their slots in the bag lid frame.
- Press firmly and directly over each clip location until you hear and feel an audible click. Each clip must seat individually.
Critical: Press directly over the top of each clip — pressing off-center can crack the grill. If a clip won't seat, recheck that the tabs are engaged and the gasket is sitting flush.
Step 8 – Repeat on the Opposite Side
Follow the same process for the second bag lid grill. Step back and confirm both grills are flush, fully seated, and the designs are oriented consistently.
Step 9 – Final Check
Give each grill a firm tug to confirm all clips are fully engaged. Close and open the bag lids to confirm the grills don't interfere with operation. Wipe off any fingerprints with a clean microfiber cloth. You're done!
Tips for a Perfect Install
- Opening the bag lid fully before starting gives you much better access and visibility to the clip locations.
- Always do the dry fit first — it takes 30 seconds and confirms you have the right side before committing.
- If a clip feels stiff, a brief warm-up with a heat gun on low (10–15 seconds) makes the plastic more pliable.
- After your first ride, give each grill a quick tug to confirm all clips are still fully seated.
